Curly has been so busy over the last few weeks, so busy in fact that he was
finding it very difficult to keep up with everything that was going on with
Junior Church, and as he didn't want to disappoint anybody he asked his twin
brother Wurly if he would help out.Curly and his friends from the Junior Church enjoyed a morning of cake making on Sunday 2nd July. They made quite an assortment of cakes which they then sold to raising ?50 towards the church charity, The Broxtowe
Womens Project.Curly went on holiday to Cornwall with Molly & Charlie Sneath at the
beginning of July. He had a great time although we have noticed he?s put on
a few pounds after eating too many cream teas. He spent most of his time on
the beach building sand castles with Charlie but drew the line when Molly
offered to show him how to body board?..Maybe next year CurlyOn Friday 7th July, Emma & Rachael Brough, Rachel Heasley, Ruth Walker, Amy Weir and Wurly the bear (that?s Curly the bear?s twin brother) met up with other young people & their various mascots all dressed in a sea of green and yellow to board a coach to Blackpool. They were of to the MAYC (that?s the Methodist Association of Youth Clubs) breakout weekend. They stayed at a church in Longdon just outside Blackpool. The weekend consisted of fun & fellowship with various workshops, including Salsa dancing. There were also various bands taking part. The next breakout weekend is in 2008 at Cliffe College, the girls have already got their names down, not sure about Wurly. Here are some of the girls comments on the weekend:-I really enjoyed the weekend away with MAYC. Meeting together with so many other Christians from around Britain was a fantastic experience, and the events on offer were fun and exciting! The live entertainment was great to watch too, and with the whole event being in Blackpool- that was even better!
Ruth WalkerWe heard some awesome worship bands, and the atmosphere in the ballroom
there was amazing. We learnt to salsa!! We all did the salsa workshop which
was really fun, and surprisingly easy!
It was really good to come together with so many people, and to get to know
other people from local churches.
Rachel HeasleyBreakout was a great experience because we got to meet people our own age
who share the same beliefs as we did. I especially enjoyed the lively style
of worship. Rachael BroughI loved breakout! The style of worship was unlike anything I?ve ever
experienced.
The people were awesome! The whole event was so energetic and for me really
captured what being a young Methodist should be like.
Emma BroughThe church family concert took place on the evening of Saturday 15th July.
The first half consisted of a performance of the musical ?Joseph & his
Technicolor dreamcoat? the choir was drawn from churches in Beeston
Attenborough. Several members of our own Junior Church took part in the performance. The
second half of the concert consisted of a variety of performances from
members of Chilwell Road. The second half opened with the theme music from
Star Wars followed by ?Everybody needs somebody to love? from the Blues
Brothers, this piece was arranged for the wind band by Tim Foster. The individual items were led by Rachael Brough on the clarinet followed by
Olivia Bridges & Charlotte Weir on the flute. Jenny weir & Malcolm
Batchelor played two
piano duet pieces & Peter Smith recited another of his tales of
Albert. There were two pieces from the Madrigal group & the evening
concluded with a flute trio piece and then the wind band playing the
Elizabethan seranade. The proceeds from the concert were for NCH.Curly & Wurly teamed up to join with the Junior Church and some members of
the Korean Church Sunday school when they spent a morning learning a
traditional Korean dance. It was very energetic. The morning was rounded
off with a bring and share lunch with both english & Korean food. Very
tasty!Curly is now off to Australia with the Stott family leaving Wurly behind to
join in the rest of the Junior Church summer activities.--
