Curly has been so busy over the last few weeks, so busy in fact that he was
finding it very difficult to keep up with everything that was going on with
Junior Church, and as he didn't want to disappoint anybody he asked his twin
brother Wurly if he would help out.Curly and his friends from the Junior Church enjoyed a morning of cake making on Sunday 2nd July. They made quite an assortment of cakes which they then sold to raising ?50 towards the church charity, The Broxtowe
Womens Project.Curly went on holiday to Cornwall with Molly & Charlie Sneath at the
beginning of July. He had a great time although we have noticed he?s put on
a few pounds after eating too many cream teas. He spent most of his time on
the beach building sand castles with Charlie but drew the line when Molly
offered to show him how to body board?..Maybe next year CurlyOn Friday 7th July, Emma & Rachael Brough, Rachel Heasley, Ruth Walker, Amy Weir and Wurly the bear (that?s Curly the bear?s twin brother) met up with other young people & their various mascots all dressed in a sea of green and yellow to board a coach to Blackpool. They were of to the MAYC (that?s the Methodist Association of Youth Clubs) breakout weekend. They stayed at a church in Longdon just outside Blackpool. The weekend consisted of fun & fellowship with various workshops, including Salsa dancing. There were also various bands taking part.The next breakout weekend is in 2008 at Cliffe College, the girls have already got their names down, not sure about Wurly. Here are some of the girls comments on the weekend:-I really enjoyed the weekend away with MAYC. Meeting together with so many other Christians from around Britain was a fantastic experience, and the events on offer were fun and exciting! The live entertainment was great to watch too, and with the whole event being in Blackpool- that was even better!
Ruth WalkerWe heard some awesome worship bands, and the atmosphere in the ballroom
there was amazing. We learnt to salsa!! We all did the salsa workshop which
was really fun, and surprisingly easy!
It was really good to come together with so many people, and to get to know
other people from local churches.
Rachel HeasleyBreakout was a great experience because we got to meet people our own age
who share the same beliefs as we did. I especially enjoyed the lively style
of worship. Rachael BroughI loved breakout! The style of worship was unlike anything I?ve ever
experienced.
The people were awesome! The whole event was so energetic and for me really
captured what being a young Methodist should be like.
Emma BroughThe church family concert took place on the evening of Saturday 15th July.
The first half consisted of a performance of the musical ?Joseph & his
Technicolor dreamcoat? the choir was drawn from churches in Beeston
Attenborough. Several members of our own Junior Church took part in the performance. The
second half of the concert consisted of a variety of performances from
members of Chilwell Road. The second half opened with the theme music from
Star Wars followed by ?Everybody needs somebody to love? from the Blues
Brothers, this piece was arranged for the wind band by Tim Foster. The individual items were led by Rachael Brough on the clarinet followed by
Olivia Bridges & Charlotte Weir on the flute. Jenny weir & Malcolm
Batchelor played two
piano duet pieces & Peter Smith recited another of his tales of
Albert. There were two pieces from the Madrigal group & the evening
concluded with a flute trio piece and then the wind band playing the
Elizabethan seranade. The proceeds from the concert were for NCH.Curly & Wurly teamed up to join with the Junior Church and some members of
the Korean Church Sunday school when they spent a morning learning a
traditional Korean dance. It was very energetic. The morning was rounded
off with a bring and share lunch with both english & Korean food. Very
tasty!Curly is now off to Australia with the Stott family leaving Wurly behind to
join in the rest of the Junior Church summer activities.--

Curly's Adventures at Eurodisney


At May half-term the Bridges family went to Disneyland Paris. We had a great time and you can see that Curly the Bear enjoyed himself too. We flew over London with Peter Pan, got lost in Alice's Wonderland maze. Nearly got blown up and washed away in a flood in the film studios, raced each other round the car track and went into Paris to look at the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame Cathedral. Just a pity we can't have croissants and pain au chocolat for breakfast every day at home.

Methodist beliefs

The Methodist Church exists to:

  • Increase awareness of God's presence and celebrate God's love [Worship]
  • Help people to learn and grow as Christians, through mutual support and care [Learning and Caring]
  • Be a good neighbour to people in need and to challenge injustice [Service]
  • Make more followers of Jesus Christ [Evangelism]

 

Beliefs and Worship
Methodists stand within the Protestant tradition of the worldwide Christian Church. Their core beliefs reflect orthodox Christianity. Methodist teaching is sometimes summed up in four particular ideas known as the "four alls".

  1. All need to be saved - the doctrine of original sin.
  2. All can be saved - Universal Salvation.
  3. All can know they are saved - Assurance.
  4. All can be saved completely - Christian perfection

Peter's Confession of Christ

Dietrich Bonhoeffer

In April 1945, Hitler, already confined to his bunker in Berlin, ordered that Bonhoeffer should not be allowed to survive the collapse of the Nazi regime. Today, his statue stands among the 20th-century martyrs above the entrance to Westminster Abbey.

Bonhoeffer wrote: "The thing that keeps coming back to me is, what is Christianity, and, indeed, who is Christ for us today?" He asked this question in the context of what he called "a world come of age". He was acutely conscious of the displacement of God from the culture of Europe: "One may ask whether ever before in human history there have been people with so little ground under their feet."
